DOHA, Qatar, March 27, 2015 – Danell Leyva of Miami/Team Hilton HHonors (Universal Gymnastics), picked up the horizontal bar bronze medal today at the Doha World Cup in Doha, Qatar. The event is part of the International Gymnastics Federation’s World Challenger Cup series.

Leyva scored a 13.975 to win the bronze medal on the high bar. Argentina’s Nicolas Cordoba took the gold medal with a 15.250. Japan’s Kazuyuki Takeda was second (14.900). Leyva started his routine strong with a full Takamoto to Yamawaki and then was clean on a layout Kovacs. Then, he missed the bar on his Kolman release. Leyva remounted and finished strong with a tucked Kovacs and layout double-double dismount.

On the parallel bars, Leyva finished fourth with a 15.300. He performed an opening sequence that included a Peach, Peach Diamidov and Peach to one bar before sticking his double front dismount to conclude. Azerbaijan’s Oleg Stepko won the gold medal, 15.750, followed by Jossimar Calvo of Colombia, 15.725, and Romania’s Andrei Muntean, 15.550.
