KATY, Texas (July 9, 2022) – Greta Krob (Tipton, Iowa/Iowa Gym-Nest) topped the all-around standings in the 11-12-year-old division and Lacie Saltzmann (Coppell, Texas/Texas Dreams) claimed top honors among 13-14-year-olds Saturday at Stars Gymnastics, as the 2022 Hopes Classic closed out American Classic weekend in Katy, Texas. Of the nearly 50 gymnasts in action, 36 qualified to compete at this year’s Hopes Championships, which will accompany the U.S. Classic July 28 at Utah’s Maverik Center.

Saltzmann posted a combined 49.950 to claim all-around gold. Payton Chandler (Frisco, Texas/Metroplex Gymnastics), who delivered the division’s high marks on vault (13.300), was the 13-14 runner up with a 49.750, and Christina Shelton (Marietta, Ga./Top Notch Training Center), who topped the scoresheet on uneven bars (12.700), rounded out the top-three with a 48.650. Cori Blocker (Fulshear, Texas/Cypress Academy of Gymnastics) picked up the 13-14 balance beam title with a 13.150, while Catherine Guy (Holt, Mich./Gym X-Treme) led the way on floor exercise with a 12.700.

In the 11-12-year-old division, Krob’s 50.050 in the all-around edged runner up Addy Fulcher (Dallas, N.C./Bull City Gymnastics), who finished with a 49.450, and Lailah Danzy (Tulsa, Okla./Pride Gymnastics Academy), who was third with a 48.900. Danzy set the bar on vault with a 13.500, and Fulcher paced the field on uneven bars with a 12.900. On balance beam, Krob and Lila Richardson (Springdale, Ark./Hopes and Dreams Gymnastics) split the apparatus title after each earned a 12.750. Richardson and Isabella Anzola (Statham, Ga./Georgia Elite Gymnastics) shared the floor exercise championship with matching scores of 12.700.

Up to 18 gymnasts in each division – who met the minimum all-around qualifying score of 45.000 for 13-14-year-olds and 42.250 for those aged 11-12 – could advance from this weekend’s Hopes Classic to the 2022 Hopes Championships. The top-three finishers in the 13-14 category have earned the opportunity to compete as juniors at the U.S. Classic. Because only 11 other athletes in the 13-14-year-old division reached the minimum qualifying score, the remaining spots have been filled by 11-12-year-old gymnasts, in rank order, who surpassed the necessary 42.250 but were not among the top-18 finishers. The following athletes have qualified based on their performances in Katy.
