INDIANAPOLIS, June 12, 2019 – Twenty-eight gymnasts, including members of the U.S. Women’s National Team, are expected to participate in the June training camp that begins June 14 at EVO Athletics in Sarasota, Fla. In addition to the camp, the Junior World Championships Team Trials will be held on Friday, June 14, in the morning. Selected senior athletes also will verify as part of the selection process for the 2019 Pan American Games Team on Friday. The camp is an opportunity for the national team staff to observe routines for all team members before the summer’s competitive season.

"The June camp is our last time to get the entire national team together to help the athletes prepare for their national and international competitions coming up this summer,” said Tom Forster, the women’s high-performance team coordinator. “Everyone is excited for the opportunity to compete in the Junior World Championships and Pan Am Games, and we want to make the most of the time we have. We will be finalizing decisions for skills and connections on each event and training appropriately to peak at the correct times."

For the Junior World Team, gymnasts must be 14 or 15 years of age in 2019, and all of the juniors at the camp meet the age requirement. The all-around champion at the trials automatically is named to the three-person team. The athlete selection committee will identify two additional athletes for the team, plus an alternate, in accordance with the published selection procedures.

Gymnasts interested in pursuing a berth on the 2019 Pan American Games Team have the option to compete in a competition at the June camp or the 2019 American Classic in Salt Lake City, Utah. At the conclusion of the American Classic, the athlete selection committee will identify eight women based on performances at either the camp or American Classic to be considered for the Pan American Games Team. Those eight women must compete in the 2019 GK U.S. Classic, and the five-woman Pan Am Games Team will be named at the conclusion of the GK U.S. Classic on July 20 in Louisville, Ky. The process is detailed in the selection procedures.

The camp’s schedule begins with the Junior World Trials on Friday, as well as with the Pan Am Games competition. Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning will have training sessions, with physical abilities on Sunday. Camp concludes Monday afternoon.
