DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., May 11, 2014 – On the final day of the 2014 Stars & Stripes Cup at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., the USA won the men’s and women’s synchronized trampoline and tumbling titles. Also, 12 age-group champions were named in trampoline, tumbling and double mini-trampoline and for Level 6 rhythmic gymnastics.

The four senior titles won by the USA are: women’s tumbling – Cheyenne Kelley of Broken Arrow, Okla./Oklahoma Extreme Tumbling; men’s tumbling – Austin Nacey of Braidwood, Ill./TwistStars Tumbling and Trampoline LTD; women’s synchronized trampoline – Shaylee Dunavin of Amarillo, Texas/All American Gymnastics, and Charlotte Drury of Laguna Niguel, Calif./World Elite; and men’s synchronized trampoline – Hunter Brewster of Lafayette, La./Trampoline and Tumbling Express, and Neil Gulati of Irvine, Calif./World Elite.

In tumbling, Nacey clinched the senior men’s title by scoring 71.500. Canada’s David Findlay was second at 70.100, followed by Trevor Jackson of Ramona, Calif./So Cal TTC, at 68.900. For the women, Kelley slipped by Marina Moskalenko of Saint Cloud, Fla./Stick It Gymnastics, 63.800 to 63.700. Choyce Hays of Jenks, Okla./Oklahoma Extreme Tumbling, was third with 57.500.

In women’s synchro, Dunavin and Drury won the title at 41.900. Hayley Butcher of Saint John, Ind./Midwest Training and Ice Center, and Deana Parris of Burtonsville, Md./Fairland Gymnastics, finished second. In the men’s competition, Brewster and Gulati earned the top score at 48.400 to win the gold medal. Jeffrey Gluckstein of Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Elite Trampoline Academy, and Aliaksei Shostak of Lafayette, La./Trampoline and Tumbling Express, finished on their heels for second with 47.400. Rounding out the top three were Steven Gluckstein of Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Elite Trampoline Academy, and Logan Dooley of Lake Forest, Calif./World Elite, with 40.500.

Here’s a summary of the champions from today’s rhythmic gymnastics competition.

  • Group D/Level 6. Katrine Mezheritsky of Van Nuys, Calif./Rhythmic Academy of Los Angeles, won the all-around and all four event titles: all-around, 45.800; floor, 10.900; hoop, 11.600; ball, 11.500; and ribbon, 11.800. Jessica Morgan of Winnetka, Calif./Grace Rhythmics, was second in the all-around with 40.500, and Arusik Khachatryan of North Hollywood, Calif./Rhythmic Academy of Los Angeles finished third at 40.200.
  • Group E/Level 6. Baifan Zhou of Winchester, Mass./North-East Rhythmics, captured the all-around gold medal with a 44.900 total, along with the ball (11.900) and ribbon (10.700) titles. Alondra Mendez took second place at 42.100. Ashley Devlin of Westwood, Mass./New England Sports Academy, landed in third place in the all-around (41.900), as well as garnered the floor title (11.200). Iris Tang of San Diego, Calif./San Diego Rhythms captured the hoop gold (11.400).

The local partners for these events included the Central Florida Sports Commission, the Ocean Center, Volusia County and the Daytona Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau, and National Travel Systems is a partner for the World Championships and World Age Group Competition.

The World Trampoline and Tumbling Championships, held annually except in the Olympic year, determines the men’s and women’s World champions in four events: trampoline, synchronized trampoline, tumbling and double mini-trampoline. The World Age Group Competition showcases the world’s best boys and girls in those four events in four age groups: 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18 years of age. The two events are expected to showcase more than 1,100 athletes.
