Riesa, Germany – The 2002 FIG Sports Acrobatics World Championships continue in Riesa, Germany. The team awards were given tonight with Russia in 1st, China in 2nd and Ukraine in third. Although the USA did not bring a Men’s Pair and Men’s Group, they still had enough points to finish ninth in team scoring.

Each pair or groups scores from the Balance, Tempo and Combined routines were added to determine a rank order. The top six in each category go to finals where all get “new life”. The world champion and medalists will be determined from one final Combined routine on Sunday, September 29, 2002.

The USA Mixed Pair of Arthur Davis and Shenea Booth (Empire: Riverside, Calif.) had a superb performance in their Combined routine on Saturday and finished the three qualification rounds in 1st place, only 0.01 ahead of the pair from Russia. They enter the finals and medal round on Sunday.

The USA Women’s Pair of Jessica Gardner and Nicolette Bohnert (Empire: Riverside, Calif.) stayed in fifth place after the qualification with an excellent Combined routine and also made finals.

The USA Woman’s Trio of Heather Downs, Tami Annonson and Sabina Knight-Yuponce (CAT: Sacramento, Cali.) completed competition and finished in 12th place overall.
