BEIJING, Aug. 22, 2008 –According to an article in today’s Times of London, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has directed the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to investigate the ages of members of the women’s Chinese gymnastics team.
“USA Gymnastics has always believed this issue needed to be addressed by the FIG and IOC,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “An investigation would help bring closure to the issue and remove any cloud of speculation from this competition.
“Regardless of the outcome, we are very proud of our team’s winning 10 medals here in Beijing and how our athletes performed.”
