SARASOTA, Fla., Feb. 21, 2019 – The February Women’s National Team Training Camp gets underway Thursday at EVO Athletics in Sarasota, Fla., with 35 gymnasts who are members of the U.S. National Team or invited athletes. The camp is primarily a selection camp for both the Jesolo (Italy) Trophy International Competition and Gymnix International in Montreal, Que., Canada, as well as having the athletes competing in upcoming World Cup events demonstrate competitive readiness.

The World Cup assignments announced previously are:

  • American Cup, Greensboro, N.C., March 2 – Grace McCallum, Isanti, Minn./Twin City Twisters, and Leanne Wong, Overland Park, Kansas/Great American Gymnastics Express
  • DTB Pokal World Cup, Stuttgart, Germany, March 14-17 – Simone Biles, Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre
  • World Cup, Birmingham, Great Britain, March 23 – Riley McCusker, Brielle, N.J./MG Elite
  • World Cup, Tokyo, April 6 – Morgan Hurd, Middletown, Del./First State Gymnastics
  • Individual event World Cups, Baku, Azerbaijan, March 14-17, and Doha, Qatar, March 20-23 – Jade Carey, Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Sunrays.

Under the watchful eye of Women’s High-performance Team Coordinator Tom Forster and the national staff, the camp’s schedule includes physical abilities testing and selection competition. The four-day camp features one training session on the arrival and departure days and two a day for the other two days. The teams for Jesolo and Gymnix will be announced on Saturday evening.

The gymnasts and coaches for the American Cup will remain in Sarasota until the depart for Greensboro.
