STUTTGART, Germany, Oct. 7, 2019 – In the men’s qualification round at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, the U.S. Men’s Team finished seventh in the team qualification rankings, not only securing a trip to the team final at the World Championships but also to the Olympic Games 2020 Tokyo. Yul Moldauer of Arvada, Colo./University of Oklahoma, and Sam Mikulak of Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center, both qualified for the men’s all-around finals. The U.S. women compete tomorrow afternoon in the women’s team final at 2:30 p.m. local time on Oct. 8. U.S.-based fans can watch the finals live at 8:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN and online.

The U.S. Team finished in seventh place in the qualification rankings with a 250.359 team total. The team scores by event were: floor exercise, 41.265; pommel horse, 39.065; still rings, 41.533; vault, 43.165; parallel bars, 43.266; and horizontal bar, 42.065. Russia had the best team score of 259.928, followed by China at 258.354 and Japan with 258.026.

For the all-around final, Moldauer ended up in 11th place in the qualification, with Mikulak clinching the 24th spot. Russia’s Nikita Nagornyy and Artur Dalaloyan had the top two qualification scores at 87.333 and 86.531, respectively. China’s Xiao Ruoteng is third at 85.831. Mikulak also qualified for the horizontal bar final by virtue of his 14.866, which was the event’s second highest score. Moldauer is the second reserve athlete for the floor exercise final.

The members of the U.S. Men’s Team are: Trevor Howard of Columbus, Ohio/Ohio State University; Mikulak; Akash Modi of Morganville, N.J./Stanford University; Moldauer; Shane Wiskus of Spring Park, Minn./University of Minnesota; and Allan Bower of Chandler, Ariz./University of Oklahoma, traveling alternate.

The U.S. women are shooting for their fifth consecutive and seventh overall team title. The U.S. women’s team includes: Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre; Jade Carey of Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Sunrays; Kara Eaker of Grain Valley, Mo./Great American Gymnastics Express; Sunisa Lee of St. Paul, Minn./Midwest Gymnastics Center; and Grace McCallum of Isanti, Minn./Twin City Twisters. MyKayla Skinner of Gilbert, Ariz./Desert Lights Gymnastics, is the alternate.
