COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Led by a double-gold-medal performance by junior national champion Marline Stephens (Houston, Texas), the United States claimed four individual event gold medals as competition concluded at the 1997 Junior Pacific Alliance Championships at the U.S. Olympic Training Center here Saturday.

Stephens won the vault and floor exercise titles, adding to the individual all-around crown and the team gold medal she won last night. She was joined on the floor exercise awards podium by teammate Sierra Sapunar (Sebastopol, Calif.), who took the silver in that event and the gold in the uneven bars.
The USA gold rush was rounded out by Freddie Umali (San Jose, Calif.), who earned the parallel bars title to complement his all-around crown last night. Working on a comeback after a Achilles tendon injury sidelined him for the entire 1996 season, Umali also won the silver in still rings and bronze in pommel horse. Anthony Petrocelli (Astoria, N.Y.) won the silver in the vault.
