NORFOLK, Va., June 5, 2009 – Region 5 recently won the overall regional title at the 2009 Junior Olympic National Compulsory Championships for rhythmic gymnastics in Norfolk, Va., May 29-31. Hosted by the U.S. Rhythmic Gymnastics Coaches Association and Excalibur Gymnastics, the national event featured more than 270 gymnasts competing in Levels 4-6 in both the regional team and Individual all-around competition.
In addition to winning the overall regional title, Region 5 also won the team title for Levels 4 and 6. In Level 5, Region 4 prevented Region 5 from sweeping all three regional Level titles.
The three all-around champions are: Ekaterina Komarova, Level 6; Erica Wu, Level 5; and Melissa Wong, Level 4.
