COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 1, 2015 – Region 5 captured the title at the second annual Regional Elite Team Championships held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Region 3 and Region 1 finished second and third, respectively.

The competition pitted top elite gymnasts from eight of the nine men’s gymnastics regions. Each Regional Elite team is made up of six gymnasts, five competed on each event and the top four scores on each apparatus counted toward the team score.

Region 5 won with a total of 346.950, and finished first on floor (60.500), still rings (59.500), parallel bars (57.700) and horizontal bar (54.650) and second on pommel horse (55.150) and vault (59.450). The gymnasts on the team were: Anton Stephenson, Grant Breckenridge, Alex Diab, Max Andryushchenko, Alec Yoder and Josh Zeal. Region 5 includes gymnasts from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.

Region 3 garnered second place with a 339.750 team total. Region 3 had vault’s top team score at 60.400. The Region 3 squad had the second highest scores on floor (58.700); still rings (59.050) and horizontal bar (52.800), as well as the third best scores on pommel horse (54.450) and parallel bars (54.350). Gymnasts on the team were: Levi Anderson, Matthew Wenske, Tristan Burke, Jordan King, Davis Grooms and Cole Casanova. Region 3 is comprised of Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

The bronze medal went to Region 1, which posted a 333.600 total. Region 1 had the top score for pommel horse at 55.350. The remaining event scores were: floor, 58.500 (third); still rings, 57.000 (fifth); vault, 56.200 (tied for fourth); parallel bars, 53.850 (fifth); and high bar, 52.700 (third). Competing for Region 1 were Emyre Cole, Cameron Bock, Elliott Herman, Bennet Huang, Matt Whittaker and Gareth Weiss. Region 1 encompasses Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada.
