INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 15, 2018 – Earlier today, Kerry Perry, president and CEO of USA Gymnastics, met with Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Indiana, to share her vision for USA Gymnastics going forward, including further developing a culture of empowerment and several athlete initiatives.

Perry updated Rep. Brooks on what steps USA Gymnastics has taken regarding safe sport. She also outlined several athlete-focused initiatives she is developing: the Listening Forum for grassroots outreach and interaction with clubs, athletes and parents; the Athlete Task Force for sharing ideas and perspectives; a simplified reporting mechanism for reporting abuse; and an athlete assistance fund that will be announced in the near future.

USA Gymnastics is supportive of the House of Representatives and Senate versions of the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport bills, and has been since they were introduced last year. Both Perry and Congresswoman Brooks are interested in fostering athlete safety in the U.S. Olympic movement.

Perry looks forward to working with Congresswoman Brooks and her staff in the coming weeks and months to continue to support athletes and move the sport forward.
