Steven Legendre

TOYOTA CITY, Japan, Nov. 16, 2008 – Steve Legendre of Flower Mound, Texas/University of Oklahoma, won the bronze medal on vault on the final day of the 2008 Toyota Cup in Toyota City, Japan.

On vault, Legendre landed both of his vaults: he received a 16.050 for his handspring double front and a 15.600 for his Kasamatsu one-and-a-half. Romania took the top two vault spots. Daniel Popescu won the vault title, earning a 16.400 on his first vault and a 15.600 for his second. His teammate Alin Jivan earned a 16.050 and a 15.750 for his two vaults.

Legendre finished in sixth place on both the parallel bars and horizontal bar. Legendre posted a 14.450 on parallel bars, and he earned a 14.600 for his high bar routine that included a pike and tuck Kovacs and a triple back dismount. China’s Guanyin Wang won parallel bars with a16.350, with Japan’s Hiroyuki Tomita finishing second and Korea’s Won Chul You in third. Guillermo Alvarez of Denver/Team Chevron placed eighth at 12.75 on parallel bars. Korea’s Ji Hoon Kim of Korea won the high bar title with a 16.250.
