MONTREAL, Que., Canada, March 8, 2009 – Mattie Larson of Los Angeles/All Olympia, won balance beam and floor exercise on the second day of finals at the World Cup in Montreal, Que., Canada. Tim McNeill of Falls Church, Va./University of California – Berkeley, and Danell Leyva of Miami, Fla./Universal Gymnastics, finished fourth on parallel bars and horizontal bar, respectively.

Larson won beam with a score of 14.650, followed by France’s Marine Petit in second and Canada’s Charlotte Mackie in third. On floor exercise, Larson posted a 14.950 to top the women’s field. Canada’s Mackie and Sydney Sawa placed second and third, respectively.

For the men, McNeill earned a fourth-place finish on parallel bars with a 14.950. Poland’s Adam Kierzkowski was first with a 15.225, with Japan’s Kenya Kobayashi and Yosuke Hoshi placing second and third, respectively. Leyva placed fourth on horizontal bar with a 15.150, just 0.075 points behind bronze-medal winner Hamilton Sabot of France. Croatia’s Marijo Moznik earned the gold medal with a 15.475 and Hoshi claimed the silver medal. Romania’s Daniel Popescu won vault with a 15.900.
