HUNTSVILLE, Texas, January 30, 2017 – The January women’s national team camp concluded on Friday at the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center at the Karolyi Ranch, an official U.S. Olympic Training Site. 1988 Olympic champion and national team coordinator Valeri Liukin, led the first camp of 2017.

The camp began with physical abilities testing, where Shilese Jones of Buckeye, Gabby Perea of Legacy Elite, and Emily Schild of Everest, took the top three spots. The camp also included by verifications on each apparatus. Athletes had the option to perform half routines or full routines with dismounts on to soft landing surfaces.

The U.S. women are expected to participate in the International Gymnastics Federation’s all-around World Cup series, including the American Cup, scheduled for March 4 in Newark, N.J. Four junior athletes will represent Team USA at the International Gymnix in early March and the U.S. will attend the Jesolo (Italy) Trophy, April 1-2.

2016 Olympic team replacement athletes Ragan Smith of Lewisville, Texas/Texas Dreams Gymnastics, has already been assigned to the American Cup. Team USA will have an additional women participating in the event as a wildcard, which will be announced soon.
