INDIANAPOLIS – USA Gymnastics and GymRoots, Inc. are presenting the 2006 USA Group Gymnastics Nationals, June 21-24, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Blue Ribbon Pavilion. The three-day event includes competitions in several different categories, and local personality Mindy Winkler will serve as emcee for portions of the event.
Opening Ceremonies are set for Wednesday, June 21, from 6-7 p.m. and will feature the rhythmic gymnastics team from Carmel’s Rhythmic Edge, the even’ts local host club. A total of 15 teams are competing. The teams are from Anchorage, Alaska, Las Vegas, Nev., Atlanta, Dartmouth, Mass., and xxx, Chile.
Competition at the USA Group Gymnastics Nationals features competition in several different categories, TeamGym and Rhythmic Festival, and two exhibition performances. Group gymnastics involves teams that perform choregraphed routines that involve gymnastics and dance steps and skills.
The 2006 TeamGym National Championships is Thursday, June 22 at 11 a.m. The team from Las Vegas’ Go For It USA are returning to defend its 2005 title.
The Rhythmic Festival competition takes place on Thursday, June 22, at 9 a.m. and on Saturday, June 24, at 9 a.m.
The USA National GymFest showcases gymnastics groups in exhibition performances on Friday, June 23, at 3 p.m. Teams include world-class performers from West Bend, Wis., and special guests from the Club Stadio Italiano in (need name of town), Chile.
The Gala Showcase is the culminating performance event. All of the top performers from the week’s activities will perform on Saturday, June 24, fat 3 p.m.
All activities are open to the public. Tickets are available at the door for $10 per day. GymRoots, Inc., and Rhymic Edge are the local hosts of the three-day event, which is part of the USA Gymnastics family.
