2009 world all-around champion Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind., was voted Indiana’s Olympic Athlete of the Decade by the Indianapolis Star. The decision was announced in an article, Aca A An amazing balancing act: Pittsboro gymnast Sloan is a national and world championAca A by David Woods, that appeared in the Jan. 6 edition of the paper. Sloan’s teammate, 2008 Olympic team silver-medalist Samantha Peszek of Indianapolis, was sixth on the list.

In 2009, Sloan became just the fifth U.S. woman to win the coveted world all-around title. She also won the U.S. all-around title, as well as the all-around crown at two international exchanges. In 2008, she helped the U.S. women win the team silver medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China. She also was an alternate to the 2007 World Team that won the team gold medal. In addition to the Olympic team, Peszek was a member of the 2007 world team that won the team gold medal, only the second world team title for the U.S. women in history.
