The Tayla Vexler Gymnast Unite Grant is awarded

West Chester, PA – October 20, 2010 Unite for HER nonprofit organization is pleased to announce an increase in grants for 2011. The Gymnasts Unite Grant program was created to ease the emotional and financial burden experienced by USA Gymnastics womens artistic gymnasts and their families due to breast cancer. Our goal is to provide monetary support to the increasing number of gymnasts whose parent or sibling is a breast cancer survivor, is currently battling the disease, or who have lost an immediate family member to breast cancer. Funding for the Gymnasts Unite Grants comes from the Pink Invitational competition and outreach event, which is hosted by AJS Pancott Gymnastics National Training Center.

Earlier this year, Unite for HER awarded $1,000 grants to five gymnasts and their families affected by breast cancer. In 2011, Unite for HER is prepared to provide $2,000 grants to 10 gymnasts. We are also privileged to offer the Talya Vexler Gymnasts Unite Grant again this year. Former University of Georgia gymnastics coach, Suzanne Yoculan, generously funds this special $1,000 grant. The deadline to apply for the Gymnasts Unite Grant is December 15, 2010. Recipients will be selected and notified by mail on or before February 1, 2011. They will also be announced at the 2011 Pink Invitational~Gymnasts Unite competition, and on the Unite for HER and Pink Invitational websites.

For more information regarding the grant criteria and application, please visit the Pink Invitational website at www.pinkinvitational.com. We encourage all eligible gymnasts to apply.

About Unite for HER: Unite for HER is a nonprofit organization founded in 2009 by Sue Weldon, gymnastics coach and six-year breast cancer survivor. As a survivor, Sue knows the struggles and challenges of facing the disease and is dedicated to supporting women with breast cancer. The organization has developed four areas of outreach that are funded by private donations, sponsorships, grants, and fundraising events. Each of these outreach opportunities was designed to fulfill the organizations mission, which is to make a positive difference in the lives of women and girls by supporting and providing breast cancer programs and initiatives that educate, empower and restore. The Pink Invitational is an outreach and fundraising event of Unite for HER.

About the Pink Invitational: The Pink Invitational~ Gymnasts Unite was founded in 2008. Partnering with AJS Pancott Gymnastics National Training Center, Sue Weldon was able to fulfill her vision of educating athletes in the gymnastics community about breast cancer and empowering them to give back to others in need. In keeping with the Unite for HER vision, we seek to educate girls and young women about the benefits of healthy lifestyle choices, breast health, organic products, good nutrition, regular physical activity, and healing therapies.
