KAZAN, Russia, Sept. 1, 2019 – Evita Griskenas of Orland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, was fifth in the ribbon final at the 2019 Kazan (Russia) World Challenge Cup at the Gymnastics Centre. U.S. fans can enjoy the action later today on the Olympic Channel at 8 p.m. ET, with a simulcast.

In the ribbon final, Griskenas was fifth at 17.200. Russia’s twins Dina and Arina Averina took first and second at 21.850 and 20.550, respectively. Belarus’ Katsiaryna Halkina was third at 19.100. The Averina twins won the remaining individual event titles: Arina Averina, hoop,/23.200;and Dina Averina, ball/23.450 and clubs/23.350. For group, Russia took the 5 balls crown at 29.150, and Bulgaria nabbed the 3 hoops/2 pairs of clubs gold at 28.100.

Earlier in the competition, Griskenas was eighth in the all-around at 75.750. Her four event scores were: hoop, 19.400; ball, 18.900; clubs, 19.600; and 17.850, ribbon. Mizuno’s four-event total was 67.100, with event scores of 14.900/hoop, 17.250/ball, 17.650/clubs, and 17.300/ribbon. Dina and Arina Averina took first and second with their 90.450 and 86.800, respectively. Bulgaria’s Katrin Tseva was third (80.900).

The U.S. group earned a 24.100 for its 3 hoops/2 pairs of clubs routine, which put them in 11th place in the all-around at 49.30. The members of the U.S. group, which is based at North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, are: Isabelle Connor, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Connie Du, Deerfield, Ill.; Yelyzaveta Merenzon, Buffalo Grove, Ill.; Elizaveta Pletneva, Deerfield, Ill.; Nicole Sladkov, Vernon Hills, Ill.; and Kristina Sobolevskaya, Chicago. Russia won the all-around gold at 28.45, with Bulgaria second at 57.500 and Italy in third at 56.900.
