LOS ANGELES, Calif., April 20, 2013 – The University of Florida won its first team title at the 2013 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif. The University of Oklahoma was second and defending champion University of Alabama was third. The championships wrap up with the individual event finals on Sunday, April 21, at 1 p.m. PT. The University of Florida overcame difficulties on balance beam in the first rotation to win its first team title, finishing with a team total of 197.575. Florida started the meet scoring only a 48.875 on balance beam, but came back strong with the top scores on the other three events to win the title. The Gators scored 49.500 on vault, 49.475 on bars and 49.725 on floor to seal the title.
The University of Oklahoma had the top score on beam, 49.475, to finish second with a team total of 197.375. Oklahoma finished the meet on floor exercise while the Gators were on bars and the Crimson Tide were on balance beam. Defending champions University of Alabama slipped to third on its final event, balance beam, to finish 197.350. Rounding out the top six were UCLA in fourth with 197.100, Louisiana State University with 197.050 and University of Georgia with a 196.675.
The Gators became just the fifth team in history to win the coveted NCAA women’s team title, joining the University of Alabama, UCLA, University of Georgia, and the University of Utah.
University of Florida team includes all-around champion Bridget Sloan, Bridgette Caquatto, Mackenzie Caquatto, Biana Dancose-Giambattisto, Ashanee Dickerson, Kytra Hunter, Alaina Johnson, Marissa King, Jamie Shisler, and Rachel Spicer.
Competing for the University of Oklahoma were: Lara Albright, Lauren Alexander, Erica Brewer, Rebecca Clark, Maile’ana Kanewa, Keeley Kmieciak, Madison Mooring, Brie Olson, Haley Scaman, Taylor Spears, and Hayden Ward.
The University of Alabama team includes: Becca Alexin, Lauren Beers, Kaitlyn Clark, Sarah DeMeo, Lora Leigh Frost, Kim Jacob, Diandra Milliner, Ashley Priess, Ashley Sledge, and Kayla Williams.
