INDIANAPOLIS, January 24, 2020 – This week, twenty-seven women and their personal coaches gathered in Indianapolis to participate in the first U.S. Women’s National Team training camp of the year at the new USA Gymnastics training center.

During the course of the four days, the staff assisted in hands-on training, shared training ideas, and introduced new drills for skills, ensuring continued success at the highest level for the U.S. Women’s National Team and participating juniors.

“I think the first week of training in Indianapolis was a great success,” said high-performance team director Tom Forster. “Our national staff worked closely with the senior coaches and athletes to help them prepare for their goal of making the Olympic Team.”

“I’ve heard positive feedback from the athletes and the coaches about the new center,” added Annie Heffernon, the vice president for women’s gymnastics. “But we know there are improvements we can continue to make for future camps, and we welcomed recommendations and feedback on the positives, and also areas where we can improve to ensure we’re providing a safe, comfortable facility where athletes can train as we enter the Olympic year.”

EVO Athletics in Sarasota, Fla., and Flip Fest in Crossville, Tenn., have served as training locations for the women’s program since 2018. USA Gymnastics is exploring the long-term training and wellness facility specifications and requirements as the first step in pursuing a permanent training facility for all disciplines.
