A committee from Cal Gymnastics Forever recently met with the University of California, Berkeley, Athletic Director Sandy Barbour, who opened the door to reinstating the Men’s Gymnastics Team. And, the athletic department is supporting Cal Gymnastics Forever’s efforts to do it. Below is an excerpt from the letter distributed by Cal Gymnastics Forever, which outlines what is needed and Cal Gymnastics Forever’s plan of action.

A message from Cal Gymnastics Forever
The University has now given us a clear message: we need to raise $4 million in pledges by the end of April, and we are excited that we have a goal that is achievable. We can do this. We can Save California Men’s Gymnastics so that we can celebrate our 100-year anniversary in 2012. The good news is that we don’t need the cash by April, just your pledges. Our pledges and donations are exclusively for men’s gymnastics and cannot be used for any other purpose. They will be in a segregated gymnastics team-specific term endowment fund.

This is how we can do it.

We currently have more than 500 supporters with pledges totaling more than $1,000,000, and an additional 1,000 supporters who have not yet pledged. We are asking for new pledges from supporters who have not yet made a pledge commitment and for those who have already pledged to increase and extend their pledge. If we can double our pledges and extend those over five years, we can raise the $4 million.

The University is reconsidering its decision to cut our program. They have offered us the opportunity for reinstatement if we can overcome the budget deficit. We need your financial support now.

You’ll be able to track our progress at www.calgymnasticsforever.com.

Please open and print the Pledge Form, as required by the Athletic Department at CalGymnasticsForever.com.

If you are able to help, please do so as soon as possible by mailing the completed pledge form to: Cal Gymnastics Forever, P.O. Box 1762 Oakland, CA 94604 or scan and email to [email protected].

Thanks again for your continued support! Go Bears!
