WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 14, 2024) – Apparatus titles were decided on the final day of the 2024 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships at West Chester University Sunday afternoon, and for the second straight day, an athlete from a historically black college and university (HBCU) came away with a win.

Following Saturday’s historic all-around victory by with Morgan Price of Fisk University, Talladega’s Kyrstin Johnson on Sunday became the first HBCU gymnast to win an individual event title at the Collegiate Championships. The all-around bronze medalist one day before, Johnson on Sunday posted the highest score of the day on vault, a 9.8750, to take the title ahead of Texas Women’s University’s Kaitlyn Hoiland and Cornell’s Sydney Beers, who tied for second (9.8250).

Finishing behind gold medalist Maggie Slife of Air Force (9.900), Johnson also tied with Gayla Griswold of Lindenwood for silver on floor exercise with a 9.8625. On uneven bars, Jordan Coleman of host West Chester claimed the title with a 9.8875. There was a three-way tie for silver between Slife, Nya Kraus of Lindenwood and Asta-Sollilja Farrell of Brown, who all scored matching 9.8375s.

Air Force’s Clara Wallace and Kylee Greene went 1-2 on balance beam with scores of 9.8875 and
9.8125, respectively. Talladega’s Alondra Maldonado, Cornell’s Mikayla Burton and Brown’s Lauren Kramer tied for bronze with a 9.8000.

Several individuals were recognized as part of annual awards at the meet. Kieran Ross from the University of Bridgeport won the Mari-Rae Sopper Spirit Award, Catelyn Branson of Lindenwood was recognized as the Ken Anderson Head Coach of the Year, and Sienna Crouse and Sam Scherwinski of Lindenwood were named Ken Anderson Co-Assistant Coaches of the Year. Athletes were also recognized as first and second team All-Americans.
