In her first competition as a senior, 2023 World bronze medalist Rin Keys (Porter Ranch, Calif./Burlo Gymnastics) took charge of the senior all-around competition while Isabella Chong (Mission Viejo, Calif./Burlo Gymnastics) claimed the junior title at the 2024 Rhythmic Challenge.

Keys makes statement in senior debut

Keys won senior all-around gold with a 128.950 over two days of competition. She was also the gold medalist on hoop (33.850) and clubs (33.300) and took the silver medal on ball (31.650) at the conclusion of the event. She had the fourth-highest ribbon score of the field with a 30.150.

Also making her first senior appearance, 2023 Pan Am Championships junior all-around silver medalist Megan Chu (San Diego, Calif./Pacific Stars Rhythmic Academy) earned all-around silver with an overall 126.100 ahead of Olympian Lili Mizuno (Northbrook, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center) in third with a 122.900. Chu secured the ball title with a 31.750 and Mizuno the ribbon title with a 30.550.

In group competition, the North Shore Rhythmic senior group of Goda Balsys (Northbrook, Ill.), Annabella Hantov (Northfield, Ill.), Kristina Lee (Woodridge, Ill.), Alaini Spata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Kalina Trayanov (Deerfield, Ill.) clinched all-around gold with a 45.900 in addition to five hoops (25.200) and three ribbons and two balls (20.700) titles. The group from Liberty Academy was second all-around with a 44.250 and the group from Elegance Gymnastics third with a 35.050.

Chong leads juniors

2023 U.S. junior ball bronze medalist, Chong led all juniors at the Rhythmic Challenge to win gold in the all-around (116.250), hoop (29.250) and clubs (29.700) on Saturday. She also collected a silver medal on ribbon with a 27.800 and a bronze on ball with a 29.500. Ruby Freshwater (Northridge, Calif./Burlo Gymnastics) was the all-around silver medalist with a 114.750, and Natalia de la Rosa (Woodland Hills, Calif./Burlo Gymnastics) put up a 114.500 to claim bronze. Freshwater won gold on ball with a 30.950 and de la Rosa did the same on ribbon with a 28.250.

The Burlo Gymnastics junior group of Sasha Kuliyev (Granada Hills, Calif.), Leyla Kukhmazova (Porter Ranch, Calif.), Natalia Serobian (Glendale, Calif.), Claire Glukhovsky (West Hills, Calif.), Nina Keys (Porter Ranch, Calif.) and Katerina Levit (Granada Hills, Calif.) swept the all-around (44.750), five hoops (21.500) and five clubs (23.250) podiums. The junior group from Vitrychenko Academy and IK Gymnastics won silver with a 41.600 and the group from North Shore took bronze with a 36.700.

Results from the USA Gymnastics Rhythmic Challenge will help determine international assignments for rhythmic athlete throughout the season. Assignments will be announced in the coming days.
