Williamsburg, Va., March 29, 2013 – The U.S. Air Force Academy and Arizona State University won the varsity and collegiate division titles at the 2013 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships on the campus of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. ASU’s Alex Gaudaur and William and Mary’s Daniel Potemski were the collegiate and varsity all-around champions. The competition wraps up tomorrow with individual event finals at William and Mary’s Kaplan Arena at 2 p.m.
Air Force won the varsity team title with a 420.850 total, edging out William and Mary, which posted a 419.100. The U.S. Naval Academy was third at 404.600, followed by Springfield College with 401.850. Air Force’s team event scores were: floor exercise, 69.700; pommel horse, 69.250; still rings, 70.750; vault, 69.850; parallel bars, 70.150; and horizontal bar, 69.400.
For the Collegiate Division, ASU garnered a 407.550 to take top team honors. The University of Washington was the runner up at 358.801, with the College at Brockport third at 320.550. ASU’s team event scores were: floor, 69.200; pommel horse, 65.700; still rings, 65.400; parallel bars, 68.400; and horizontal bar, 70.350.
In the varsity all-around, Potemski clinched the all-around title with an 84.350 total, followed by teammate Keaton Akerman in second with 81.400. Navy’s Chris Junghans was third at 81.250. Potemski’s event scores were: floor, 13.800; pommel horse, 13.750; still rings, 14.150; vault, 14.400; parallel bars, 14.300; and horizontal bar, 13.950.
Gaudaur won the collegiate all-around crown with the night’s highest score of 84.500, and his teammate Lee Wilkerson was second with 81.850. Arizona State’s Stephen Gragg came in third with a 78.700. On each event, Gaudaur earned: 13.550, floor; 13.600, pommel horse; 14.500, still rings; 14.100, vault; 14.500, parallel bars; and 14.250, horizontal bar.

The schools in this year’s field are: Varsity – College of William and Mary, Springfield College, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy; and Collegiate Club Division – Arizona State University, College at Brockport, and University of Washington.
Coming into the championships, Air Force is ranked 11th nationally with a four-score average of 424.783. Among varsity teams, William & Mary is ranked 12th at 415.883, while Springfield and Navy, are ranked 16th (406.367) and 17th (403.533), respectively. Ranked 18th in the national standings, Arizona State currently leads the Club teams, with a four score average of 403.283. Washington is ranked 19th with a 351.700 average, while Brockport is ranked 20th with a 199.067 mark.
