CHENGDU, China – Fred Richard (Stoughton, Mass./University of Michigan) and Joshua Karnes (Erie, Penn./Penn State University) each finished in the top 10 in all-around competition at the 2023 World University Games in Chengdu, China.

Richard landed just off the podium in fourth with a combined score of 83.764, while Karnes was sixth with an 82.664. Chinese athletes Boheng Zhang and Cong Shi claimed first (86.733) and second (86.398) and Kazuma Kaya of Japan was third (84.098).

Richard had the second-highest horizontal bars score (14.233) and the third-highest floor exercise score (14.166) during all-around competition. Karnes posted the highest pommel horse score of the afternoon with a 14.733.

Artistic gymnastics competition in China concludes tomorrow, Sunday, August 5, with apparatus finals beginning at 1 a.m. ET where Richard and Taylor Christopulos (Layton, Utah/University of Nebraska) will compete on high bar. The event will stream live on fisu.tv and scoring is available here.
