CHICAGO, Ill., June 6, 2010 – 2005 world all-around champion and 2008 Olympic team silver-medalist Chellsie Memmel visited three Chicago-area clubs and appeared at the Fitness Festival to promote two upcoming events in Chicago, the 2010 Chicago Cup and the 2010 CoverGirl Classic. Tickets are currently on sale for both events.
Rhythmic gymnasts from Elite Gymnastics joined Memmel at the Fitness Festival, sponsored by the local NBC affiliate, and gave a demonstration to build awareness of rhythmic gymnastics and the Chicago Cup. The Chicago Cup, scheduled for June 26-27 at the Broadway Armory, is an international event that showcases the USA’s top rhythmic gymnasts and some of the world’s best. At the Fitness Festival on Saturday, June 6, Memmel led a fitness exercise on the main stage, as well as signed autographs and posed for photos at the World Sport Chicago booth. During the event, she also met TV personality Mario Lopez. During her two-day visit, Memmel also visited Flying High Gymnastics, the Chicago Park District’sHarrison Park and Oak Lawn Gymnastics.
The CoverGirl Classic features a combination of current and up-and-coming women gymnasts. Held at the UIC Pavilion on the University of Illinois – Chicago, the CoverGirl Classic’s junior and senior elite competition is July 24, with the Challenge Division scheduled for July 23 and 25.
