George Beckstead

George Beckstead is being inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame as a contributor to the sport. Throughout his life, Beckstead has been involved in gymnastics, from his high school competitive career in San Pedro, California, to being honored with an honorary judging diploma from the International Gymnastics Federation. Beckstead also competed collegiately at California State University at Long Beach, where he was coached by Ken Bartlett. There, he served as his team’s captain during his senior year.

He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from California State University Long Beach in Physical Education. He is a former gymnastics coach on both the high school and college levels. Beckstead has been a FIG Brevet judge since 1979 and has judged at 11 World Championships and three Olympic Games. He served as the Men’s Technical Director at the Games in Atlanta. In 1996, Beckstead was elected to the FIG Men’s Technical Committee, where he currently serves as the committee’s secretary.

Serving on USA Gymnastics’ Executive Committee, Beckstead retired from teaching after 38 years in the secondary schools of California and currently resides in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
