SANTIAGO, Chile (November 2, 2023) – Evita Griskenas (Orland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center) earned an opportunity to compete in her second consecutive Olympic Games following a second-place all-around finish at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago on Thursday.

A 2020 Olympian, Griskenas put up a combined 127.400 in all-around competition to claim Pan Am silver and a Paris Olympic berth. She was second only to Barbara Domingos of Brazil in first (129.550), with Brazil’s Maria Eduarda Alexandre in third (127.250). Griskenas qualified to Paris by being the top all-around finisher among those not previously qualified to the Games, as Domingos already was set for Paris 2024. American Lili Mizuno (Northbrook, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center) was fifth all-around with a 121.850.

The Senior National Group secured a bronze all-around medal after scoring an overall 58.300 over two days of competition. The U.S. group of Izzy Connor (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.), Gergana Petkova (Barrington, Ill.), Katrine Sakhnov (Glencoe, Ill.), Karolina Saverino (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and Hana Starkman (Deerfield, Ill.) landed on the podium behind Brazil (64.450) and Mexico (61.750).

Griskenas and Mizuno also advanced to each apparatus final in Chile. Griskenas qualified in second on hoop (32.800), ball (31.950) and ribbon (31.250), and fourth on clubs (31.400). Mizuno advanced in fifth on ball (30.800) and clubs (31.050), and in sixth on hoop (30.750) and ribbon (29.250). The top eight athletes, limited to two per country, moved onto each final.

The U.S. rhythmic delegation will compete Friday in the hoop, ball and five hoops finals beginning at 10 a.m. ET. Trampoline competition also begins Friday with both men’s and women’s individual and synchronized trampoline qualifications starting at 9 a.m. ET. Americans Nicole Ahsinger (Lafayette, La./Trampoline and Tumbling Express) Ruben Padilla (Bluffdale, Utah/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling), Aliaksei Shostak (Lafayette, La./Trampoline and Tumbling Express) and Jessica Stevens (Ellicott City, Md./Fairland Gymnastics) will each aim for the Pan Ams trampoline podium.
