Acrobatics & Tumbling Athletes of the Week – March 26-31, 2024

Awards are given by NCATA and conference offices. More will be added throughout the week as they become available.

National

Athlete of the Week
Katey Koehl – Fairmont State
Koehl, a junior top, base and tumbler from Hartville, Ohio, competed in eight heats and team event as Fairmont State wrapped up the regular season with a win over Notre Dame on Saturday. Koehl’s performance was highlighted by four scores of 9.75 or higher, including a 9.90 in compulsory pyramid, 9.85 in open toss, and a 9.825 in open tumbling. The Falcons also scored a season-high 270.865 on Saturday to wrap up regular season competition.

Specialist of the Week
Sarah Williamson – UMHB
Williamson, a junior top from Dallas, Texas, was a standout in the pyramid event last week. She competed in every pyramid heat as UMHB competed twice last week, helping the Cru to a perfect 10.0 in open pyramid and a pair of 9.95 scores in inversion pyramid. UMHB scored a 9.65 or higher in every pyramid heat last week.

Freshman of the Week
Alexis Wilkinson – Fairmont State
Wilkinson, a base from Bridgeport, West Virginia, competed in six heats and team event for the Falcons last week. In the win over NDC, Wilkinson helped the Falcons to three scores of 9.75 or higher, including a 9.90 in compulsory toss and a 9.85 in open pyramid.

Conference Carolinas

Athlete of the Week
Kayla Young – Coker
Young competed in 11 heats and team event Thursday night as a main base and tumbler. Her performance was highlighted by a 9.75 out of 10.00 in compulsory pyramid and two 9.85 out of 10.00 scores in the duo and open pyramids where she competes as a mid base, placer and catcher. She also helped score an 8.8 out of 9.4 in the salto toss. In the acro event, she competes as a main base in the 6 element and 7 element heats, basing two tops in each heat. Young is a large contributor to team event as well, as she is involved in the synchronized acro section, all pyramid sections, all toss sections and both standing and running tumbling. Her efforts helped improve the scores in nine heats and team event from the previous meet leading to a dominant win against Emmanuel.

Specialist of the Week
Hanna Helms – Coker
Helms competed in two heats in the pyramid event Thursday night. She competed as a top performing two different body positions on two different structures. In the duo pyramid, Hanna performed a straddle hold on a backbend pyramid and in the open pyramid she competed a vertical one man pyramid. Her contributions helped the team to score a pair of 9.85 out of 10.00 scores in both heats in a win against Emmanuel.
