Gymnast of the Week awards are given by conference offices and the College Gymnastics Association. More will be added throughout the week as they become available.

Specialist of the Week
Emre Dodanli – Oklahoma
In Oklahoma’s meet against No. 2 Stanford and No. 8 California, Dodanli topped the floor exercise standings with a 15.000, his third score of 15 or better on floor exercise this season. It was Dodanli’s 11th event title in his seven meets this season. He is the only gymnast nationally to post even one 15-plus score on floor exercise this season.

Gymnast of the Week
Fred Richard – Michigan

  • Won the All-Around in No. 3 Michigan’s victory over No. 6 Penn State, posting a score of 86.950, best in the country this season
  • Also won the floor exercise (14.60) and horizontal bars (15.30)
  • Placed second on the pommel horse (14.765) and still rings (14.35)
  • Garners his third Gymnast of the Week award

Co-Specialists of the Week
Parker Thackston – Ohio State

  • Scored his first win of the season on the pommel horse with a score of 14.700 as the No. 7 Buckeyes’ fell to No. 4 Illinois
  • Earns his first Event Specialist of the Week honor

Michael Jaroh – Penn State

  • Won the pommel horse for the third time this season, posting a score of 14.700
  • Earns his first Event Specialist of the Week honor

Freshman of the Week
Luke Esparo – Penn State

  • Scored his third victory of the season on the rings, scoring a career best 14.450 in Penn State’s loss to Michigan
  • Earns his second Freshman of the Week award

Co-Gymnasts of the Week
Sam Kaplan – Springfield
Kaplan scored his career-best in the all-around with an 80.45, which was highlighted by winning the parallel bars and guiding Springfield to its highest team score since 2016 in a win over Army.

Matthew Petros – Navy
Petros was a standout on four events for the Mids on Saturday versus William & Mary with three event wins and a fourth runner-up placement. The sophomore’s day started with a 13.2 on the pommel horse to rank second in the field before sweeping the final three events of the meet. Petros tied his career-best on the vault with a 14.6 before coming within 0.05 points of his career-high on the parallel bars (14.0) and eventually winning the high bar by 0.25 points with a 13.4. Behind his 55.2 points, Petros and the Mids scored a season-high 396.75 points in their win over William & Mary

Specialist of the Week
Alex Catchpole – Simpson
Catchpole earned a 13.80 on parallel bars to break Sterling Pariza’s program mark of 13.65 set two weeks ago. His efforts tied Erich Upton for second place honors.

Rookie of the Week
Peyton Cramer – Springfield
Cramer helped power Springfield to a 398.550, the highest score in the ECAC this year, as he won the pommel horse by an impressive 1.2 points while also taking fourth on the rings.

Gymnast of the Week
Asher Hong – Stanford
Stanford sophomore Asher Hong (Tomball, TX) accumulated a career-high all-around of 86.050 in a tri-meet win over No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 8 California (Mar. 16), the highest all-around score in the nation this season. Hong won two event titles with a 15.000 on rings and an NCAA season-high 15.200 on vault. He also placed second on parallel bars with a season-high 14.900, helping the Cardinal to the nation’s top 2024 overall total of 421.150. This is the ninth career MPSF weekly
award for Hong.

Specialist of the Week
Chris Scales – California
California senior Chris Scales (San Jose, CA) anchored a still rings lineup which set a new modern program record of 69.100 in a road tri-meet against No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 2 Stanford (Mar. 16). His career-best of 14.150 ranks in a tie for third in modern program history and finished tied for third in the meet. Scales bettered his previous best by .550, and contributed to Cal’s 404.950 team total- its highest since 2019 and the fifth- best score in modern program history. This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Scales.

Freshman of the Week
Tyler Flores – Oklahoma
Oklahoma freshman Tyler Flores (Mountain House, CA) set a career-high on parallel bars with a 14.050 and added a 14.200 on vault and 13.600 on pommel horse to lead the Sooners in a tri-meet at No. 2 Stanford, with No. 8 Cal (Mar. 16). He led off OU’s p-bars rotation by executing a clean routine and sticking the dismount for his first 14-plus on the event. His combined total of 41.850 was the highest among freshmen at the meet and contributed to OU’s second-highest road score of the season. This is the first career MPSF award for Flores.
