Roman Pieo

A former standout at Penn State on the rope climb, Roman Pieo altered his role in the sport from athlete to judge following his contraction of polio. Despite having to leave the sport as a competitor, Pieo’s career flourished nonetheless, as he earned induction to the National Gymnastics Judges Association Hall of Fame for his national and international judging. He also became a FIG Judge in 1976; however, he died shortly after passing the course. Pieo was also a two-time Director of the National Gymnastics Judges Association Eastern Division.
