Little information remains on the career of John Mais, though his recorded accomplishments were groundbreaking. The two-time Olympian competed in the 1920 Games in Antwerp, Belgium as a member of the first U.S. team to compete overseas. Mais was also a 50-year member of the American Turners. Following retirement from competition, Mais volunteered as head coach at the University of Pennsylvania.
