HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 14, 2010 – Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md., and Rebecca Sereda of Staten Island, N.Y., won the rhythmic gymnastics senior and junior all-around, respectively, at the 2010 Visa Championships at the University of Hartford (Conn.) Chase Arena. Both had the top score in the respective preliminary rounds.
Zetlin, who trains at Rhythmflex, won the senior all-around title with a 202.425, posting the top score on all four apparatus: hoop (24.875), ribbon (25.15), rope (25.425), and ball (26.375). Yesterday, she won three event titles: hoop, ribbon, and ball. Her all-around preliminary score was 101.000.
"Yesterday, I knew I was in the lead, and I knew I had a pretty good chance of staying in the lead, but it’s finally real," said Zetlin. "I’ve waited so long for it. I got really emotional. I’ve waited 10 years for this. Iit’s been a long, long, bumpy ride, but I’m finally here."
With a two-day total of 196.675, Isadors’s Sereda captured the junior all-around title recording the highest finals scores on hoop (24.325), rope (25.125), and ball (24.8). Yesterday, she won the ball and hoop event titles. Her preliminary score in the all-around at 96.675.
"It’s been for a while and I haven’t been training as intensely for the competition as normal so I was kind of nervous," said Sereda. "But to do good today made me really happy and I pulled through."
Shelby Kisiel of Missouri City, Texas/ North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics, finished second in the senior all-around at 196.425. Olga Pavlenko of Brooklyn, N.Y./Isadora, took third with 188.525. JoAnna Arnold of Evanston Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics (185.725) and Anastasia Torba of Loma Linda, Calif./ Allegro Rhythmic (185.3) rounded out the top five.
North Shore Rhythmics’ Jazzy Kerber of Highland Park, Ill., took second in the junior all-around with 187.45. Alexis Page of New York, N.Y./ Aviator Sports and Recreation, placed third with a score of 185.55. Cindy Lu of Blaine, Minn. (183.6) and Aria Rodli of San Diego, Calif., (182.3) rounded out the top five.
