Julie Zetlin

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., July 21, 2010 – Chicago Cup silver-medalist Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md., headlines a field of the country’s top rhythmic gymnasts who will compete in the 2010 Visa Championships, USA Gymnastics’ national championships, in Hartford, Conn., Aug. 10-14. The gymnasts qualified for the Visa Championships at the 2010 U.S. Rhythmic National Qualifier in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., at the Andover High School Field House over the weekend. Zetlin and 2009 U.S. junior hoop silver-medalist Alexis Page of New York, N.Y., won the senior and junior all-around titles, respectively, at the National Qualifier.

Zetlin, who trains at Captial Rhythmics, scored a 99.240 to take the senior all-around crown. She also won the senior event titles in rope (25.525), hoop (25.675) and ball (26.275). Anastasia Torba of Loma Linda, Calif./Allegro, won the ribbon title (24.475); finished second in the all-around (97.760), hoop (23.950) and ball (25.400); and claimed third in rope (23.925). Olga Pavlenko of Flushing, N.Y./Isadora finished third in the all-around (94.360) and in ball (24.950). North Shore Rhythmics’ Shelby Kisiel of Missouri City, Texas, took second place in ribbon (23.925) and rope (24.400), while JoAnna Arnold of Evanston, Ill., finished third in hoop (23.450) and ribbon (23.750).

Aviators’ Page won the junior all-around (95.740), rope (23.650), ball (23.875) and clubs (24.625) titles and took second in hoop (23.575). 2010 Youth Olympic Games participant Polina Kozitskiy of Fountainville, Pa./Philadelphia Rhythmic Academy, took second in the all-around (93.940), ball (23.625) and rope (22.950) and won hoop (24.125). Julia Garbuz of Eden Prairie, Minn./Northwest Rhythmics, placed third in clubs (23.475), and Cindy Lu of Blaine, Minn./Twin Cities Rhythmic, took third in hoop (23.150).

The top 24 junior gymnasts and the top 20 seniors in rank order from the National Qualifier advanced to the 2010 Visa Championships. Sereda did not compete in the National Qualifier but successfully petitioned to compete at Visa Championships. Kozitskiy will represent the USA at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, which precludes her competing in the Visa Championships. Matkivski is ineligible to compete in the Visa Championships because she is not a U.S. citizen.

The 2010 Visa Championships, USA Gymnastics’ national championships, features the country’s best gymnasts vying for national titles and spots on the U.S. National Team. Rhythmic gymnastics, which will take place Aug. 12-13, and trampoline and tumbling will be staged at the University of Hartford’s Chase Arena, while men’s and women’s gymnastics will be held at the XL Center.
