The U.S. Anti-doping Agency has informed USA Gymnastics that rhythmic gymnast Laura Zeng had a positive drug test this fall due to a failure to report a taking medicine for altitude sickness during a vacation. Ms. Zeng has received a six-month suspension.

USA Gymnastics and Ms. Zeng support a drug-free training and competitive environment, and we appreciate Ms. Zeng’s taking responsibility for her oversight. This is reminder to all competitive athletes that the drug-reporting protocols are in force at all times and the importance of reporting any medicines taken at any time.

“I take full responsibility and accept the USADA sanction,” said Zeng. “During a recent family vacation to Machu Picchu, Peru, I took a high-altitude medicine pill that led to a positive drug test. I would like to thank my family, my attorney, and all those who helped me in this process. I also want my friends and fans know that I look forward to resuming competition when the sanction ends.”
