The WG Bellerive Village
Tuesday night the group "Emile et les Images" performed at the WG Bellerive Village. The people and their moods were soaring. The evening was a roaring success: 4,896 entry tickets were sold—without counting the volunteers and participants who had free access to the site.
National Evenings
At the Sports Center Malley, four very different cultures joined to create a single, sizzling mood, transporting the public. South Africa and Brazil wowed the public with spontaneous and explosive presentations. Germany and Italy livened up their evenings with rhythmic performances full of originality and perfectly delivered.
Conference in the ―Rome‖ hall
Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon, Marc Ristori, Motocross champion, spoke on the topic "Sport before the handicap". In parallel with the themes of fairplay and camaraderie, often addressed in sports, Ristori, handicapped in a motocross accident, spoke this time about having the will to fight and to rebound in response to the trials of life. It is this philosophy of sport which the World Gymnaestrada, as well as the organizers and the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), hope to communicate to as large an audience as possible.
Beaulieu Lausanne
The halls of Beaulieu Lausanne, which were set up with the help of the Swiss Army, have the capacity to accommodate more than 6,000 people—with halls 1 to 6 together holding 1,350 people, hall 8 holding 1,800 people, and hall 7 holding 3,000 people. The last of these helped contribute to a successful performance Wednesday by the 130 gymnasts from Vaud, who combined gymnastics on the floor, parallel bars, trampoline and rhythmic gymnastics with and without apparatus. They satisfied the spectators with their strength, grace and technique.
Sustainable development—the ―respect‖ campaign
The breakfasts and lunches are served in recyclable dishes. The accommodation sites are charged with separating recyclable materials and putting them in transparent sacks. At Beaulieu Lausanne the gymnasts are asked to bring their dishes to one of four triage areas where 20 volunteers put the refuse in transparent containers. Three employees of the city of Lausanne collect the sacks during the night and deliver them to the Intercommunal Logistic Center (CIL) in Renens. The total amount of refuse collected will be published at the end of the event.
