The World Games will be held in Cali, Colombia, July 25-Aug. 4. The remaining members of the U.S. team for the World Games will be decided following tomorrow’s finals.

Hunter Brewster and Alexi Shostak, both of Lafayette, La./T&T Express, scored 92.200 for second, followed by Steven and Jeffrey Gluckstein, both of Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Elite Trampoline Academy, with 91.500 in third.

In the women’s competition, Drury and Dunavin earned 77.700 to win the title with Earnest and Vinsant scoring 53.500 for second.

Today’s competition also determined the athletes that advance to the finals in individual trampoline, tumbling and double mini-trampoline. The top senior tumbling qualifiers in the elite division are Kalon Ludvigson of Pocatello, Idaho/Team Revolution (75.900), and Yuliya Brown of Idaho Falls, Idaho/Idaho Elite (60.600).

Performances at the U.S. Elite Challenge, combined with the results of the World Games Trials, will determine the team that will represent the USA at the 2013 World Games, scheduled for July 25-Aug. 4 in Cali, Colombia. The World Games are the equivalent to the Olympic Games for events and disciplines that are not currently on the Olympic program. For trampoline and tumbling this includes synchronized trampoline, double mini-trampoline and tumbling. Also for the elite level, this competition is one of the qualifying events for the U.S. Trampoline and Tumbling Championships, as well as part of the selection process to determine the athletes who will represent the United States at World Championships and World Age-Group Competitions.

The local organizations assisting with the hosting and staging of the U.S. Elite Challenge are the Texas Sports Commission, the Frisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Eagles Wings Athletics, assisted by the USA Gymnastics North Texas State Committee.

Trampoline events involve athletes using trampolines that can propel them up to 30 feet in the air, during which they can perform double and triple twisting somersaults. Tumbling utilizes elevated rod-floor runways that enable athletes to jump at heights more than 10 feet and execute a variety of acrobatic maneuvers. For the double-mini competition, the athlete makes a short run, leaps onto a small two-level trampoline, performs an aerial maneuver and dismounts onto a landing mat. Trampoline was added to the Olympic Games in 2000, and at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the USA had its first athlete in history advance to the finals.
