WROCLAW, Poland, July 14, 2010 – Three pairs and two groups competed in the final rounds of the 2010 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Age Group Competition, which concluded in Wroclaw, Poland, on July 11. Beginning July 16, 2009 World Games gold-medalists Kristin Allen and her mixed pair partner Michael Rodrigues, both of Livermore, Calif./West Coast Training Center, and their U.S. World Acrobatic Gymnastics teammates will compete in the 2010 World Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships, July 16-18.

The World Age Group Competition featured competition in two age groups, 11-16 and 12-19.

The 11-16 boys’ pair of Aaron Trofman of Owings Mills, Md., and Alexander Ruth of Laurel, Md., both of whom train at Emilia’s Acro Gymnastics and Cheer, had the USA’s highest finish, placing fifth in their final round. Great Britain won the 11-16 boys’ pair title. Mariah Cockshell of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Kennedy Swanson of Blue Springs, Mo., both of whom train with Acro Explosion, were sixth in the 11-16 girls’ pair finals, where the gold medal went to Russia. The 11-16 girls’ group Daphne Kirschner, Kerrie Prestipino and Rachel Cole, all from Rockville, Md./Xtreme Acro And Cheer, landed in seventh place in the finals, with Russia taking top honors.

The 12-19 mixed pair Eirian Smith and Jake Kanavel, both of San Jose, Calif./West Coast Training Center, finished in seventh place in the final round. The Ukraine won the category. The 12-19 girls’ group Liselle Kitchens and Jillian Giblin of San Ramon, Calif., and Hannah Busha of Danville, Calif., all of the West Coast Training Center, took eighth, with the gold going to Belarus.

Other members of the U.S. squad for the 12-19 age group are: girls’ group Chelcea Riegel and Mackenzie Porter of Kearney, Mo., and Kristin Weidmaier of Holt, Mo., Rising Star Acrobatic Club; mixed pair Kiley Boynton of Riverside, Calif., and Ryan Smethers of Mira Loma, Calif., Realis Gymnastics Academy; and girls’ pair Valerie Bryant and Hayley Lemmons of Boerne, Texas, Boerne Gymnastics. The remaining 11-16 world age group athletes are: girls’ group Ginger Burrows and Erica Prestipino of Rockville, Md., and Mackenzie Meyer of Silver Spring, Md., Xtreme Acro And Cheer; and girls’ pair Maren Merwarth and Taylor Mosher, both of San Antonio, Texas, Acrobatic Gymnastics of San Antonio.

In addition to Allen and Rodrigues, the U.S. World Championships Team includes mixed pair Nicole Faubert of Danville, Calif., and Brian Kincher of Fort Collins, Colo., West Coast Training Center; women’s pair Nicole Barrilleaux of Metairie, La., and Beth Landeche of New Orleans, La., Crescent City Gymnastics; and men’s pair Axel Osborne and Dylan Inserra of Richardson, Texas, WOGA.

The schedule for the World Championships is: July 15 – Opening Ceremony, 7 p.m.; July 16 – qualification rounds for mixed pair dynamic and balance, women’s group balance and dynamic, men’s group dynamic, women’s pair balance and men’s pair dynamic; July 17 – qualification rounds for mixed pair and women’s group combined, men’s group and men’s pair balance and women’s pair dynamic, and combined finals for mixed pair (6 p.m.) and women’s group (7 p.m.); July 18 – combined qualification rounds for men’s pair, men’s group and women’s pair and the final combined rounds for men’s pair (4 p.m.), women’s pair (5 p.m.) and men’s group (5:50 p.m.), followed by the Closing Ceremony.
