INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., May 4, 2011 – The 2011 Women’s Junior Olympic Level 9 Eastern and Western Championships are scheduled for May 6-8. The Level 9 Eastern Championships will be held at the DCU Convention Center in Worcester, Mass., with the Western Championships at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.
The Level 9 Eastern and Western Championships are the competitive season’s culmination event and include the best gymnasts in the country at this level. The Eastern Championships feature 16 age divisions and the Western Championships feature 8 age divisions, and the age divisions are determined by age and birth date. The Eastern Championships include top gymnasts from Regions 5-8 and the Western Championships includes top gymnasts from Regions 1-4. (The respective committees voted on the number of age divisions, which is why there are 16 for the Eastern Championships and 8 for Western Championships.)
The top six gymnasts in the all-around in each age division at the Eastern Regional Championships, and the top 12 in the all-around in each age division at the Western Regional Championships, both held April 15-17, qualified to the Level 9 Eastern and Western Championships.
