INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 23, 2026) – The U.S men’s program has appointed Peter Wieging as its new Development Program Technical Director, USA Gymnastics announced Friday. Beginning January 26, Wieging will oversee all technical aspects of the men’s development program.
As technical director, Wieging will coordinate and manage all technical and judging matters within the men’s development program and be responsible for the evolution of the men’s program judging courses and accreditation program.
“The sport of gymnastics has taught me invaluable lessons, introduced me to a wealth of incredible people, and afforded me the ability to impact countless others,” Wieging said. “I am honored to have been selected for this opportunity and look forward to fostering new relationships and continuing the positive growth of men’s gymnastics.”
Holding roles as an athlete, coach and judge throughout his career, Wieging has now been a part of the gymnastics community for more than 30 years. As an athlete, he was a nine-time All-American at Arizona State University, where he and his team won four USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships.
Wieging graduated from ASU in 2001 with a degree in exercise science and physical education and led his alma mater to five more USAG championships as a coach. In addition to his coaching role, Wieging has also served as a judge and holds several positions within the judging community, including most recently as the International Vice President of the National Gymnastics Judges Association (NGJA). He has judged at more than 40 national championship-level and international competitions, including the past two FIG Junior Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. Previously, Wieging served as the NGJA Representative on the Men’s Development Program Committee from 2021-2024.
