INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 29, 2012 – 2011 World all-around champion Jordyn Wieber of DeWitt, Mich./Gedderts’ Twistars USA, has been named an AAU Sullivan Award semi-finalist, the Sullivan Committee announced today. Fans can vote for the award, which honors the top amateur athlete in the United States, by clicking here. Voting ends March 9 at midnight ET.

Wieber had a breakout year in 2011, winning the World, U.S. and AT&T American Cup all-around titles. In addition, at the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo, Wieber helped Team USA to the gold medal for the third time in history (2003, 2007, 2011), days before becoming just the sixth U.S. woman to win the World all-around title. Wieber also captured the bronze medal on the balance beam in Tokyo.

Three gymnasts have previously won the Sullivan Award: Shawn Johnson (2008), Paul Hamm (2004) and Kurt Thomas (1979).
