U.S. juniors collected international medals as American athletes competed in Europe over the weekend.
WAG Combs-la-Ville International Tournament
Junior Camie Westerman (Frederick, Md./Hill’s Gymnastics) led American performances, earning four medals at the 2024 Combs-la-Ville International Tournament in France. Westerman was the all-around bronze medalist with a 51.399, landing on the podium just behind French athletes Elena Colas in first (52.665) and Pearl Denechere in second (51.466). Westerman also claimed vault gold with a 13.283 and uneven bars silver with a 12.600.
On Saturday, Westerman joined with teammates Gabrielle Hardie (Sioux Falls, S.D./All American Gymnastics Academy) and Isabella Anzola (Statham, Ga./Georgia Elite Gymnastics) to win team silver with a combined 102.897 behind host-country France’s Team 1 in first with a 103.630. The second French team was third with a 101.298.
In addition to team silver, Hardie also clinched floor exercise gold with a 13.366 and balance beam silver with a 12.933. She just missed out on the all-around podium, scoring a 51.265 to place fourth.
MAG/WAG Swiss Cup
Seniors Leanne Wong (Overland Park, Kan./University of Florida) and Fuzzy Benas (Richmond, Texas, University of Oklahoma) were in action on Saturday for the 2024 Swiss Cup in Zurich. The American pair competed in the first round of qualifications and did not advance (24.900). The French pair won the competition with a 27.550 followed by Algeria/Switzerland in second (26.200). The Germany/Italy pair won the “bronze round” matchup with a 28.475.
