Los Angeles, Calif. – UCLA’s Vanessa Zamarripa earned the 2013 AAI Award as the nation’s top senior gymnast, as announced at the NCAA Championships banquet on Thursday evening, April 18.
Zamarripa, the West Region and Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year, has been ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the all-around all season long and has held the top spot for the last two months. She finished the regular season ranked No. 1 on vault as well, marking the fourth time in her career she has ended the year in the top spot in the rankings on that event. Zamarripa has scored nine perfect 10s on vault in her career and was the 2010 NCAA vault champion.
Also this season, Zamarripa won the Pac-12 all-around, vault and beam titles and, in all, earned a total of 22 event victories in 46 routines, winning her event 48% of the time. She has scored three perfect 10s on vault, career-highs of 9.975 on bars and floor and a season-high of 39.75 in the all-around.
