There was added excitement at the East Coast Classic competition in Landover, Md., and an Indiana high school meet on Sunday, Feb. 14 – Valentine’s Day.

At the East Coast Classic, Brian Sateriale, who coaches the Level 6-9 gymnasts at Fairland Sports and Aquatics Center, proposed to coach and judge Beth Stracka during the competition.

“They brought me into the meet under the premise that I was a judge,” said Beth, who coaches with Brian at Fairland. “Everyone knew about his plan but me. They announced the judges for the meet, we walked out, and Brian grabbed the microphone and asked for everyone’s attention, then came over and proposed to me.”

Beth said, “YES!”

Judie Malone who coaches gymnastics at McCutcheon High School was surprised over Valentine’s weekend by her fiancé Matt Johnson during an Indiana high school meet in Lafayette.

As the awards were being presented and flowers were being handed out, Johnson got down on one knee and asked Malone to marry him in front of the entire crowd.

She said YES!
