BEIJING, China, Dec. 1, 2007—Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind., and Chellsie Memmel of West Allis, Wis., claimed the silver and bronze, respectively, in women’s floor exercise on the first day of individual event finals at the Good Luck Beijing International Tournament in Beijing, China.

 

Sloan scored a 14.925 to finish behind winner Cheng Fei of China, who posted a 15.275. Memmel earned a 14.725 to finish third. Sloan qualified for the vault finals, but did not compete.

 

Sloan will compete tomorrow on the uneven bars, and both Sloan and Memmel will compete on Monday on balance beam.

 

In men’s floor exercise, David Sender Arlington Heights, Ill., scored a 14.650 to finish eighth. He will compete in tomorrow’s vault finals.

 

Competition continues tomorrow with women’s uneven bars and men’s still rings and vault finals. The Good Luck Beijing International Tournament concludes on Monday with finals in women’s balance beam and men’s parallel bars and horizontal bar.

Held at the National Indoor Stadium, the Good Luck Beijing International Tournament is the test event for artistic gymnastics for the 2008 Olympic Games, giving each country an opportunity to see the Olympic competition venue in action.
