MAYGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 8, 2011 – The U.S. Men’s Team won the team silver medal at the 2011 Puerto Rico Cup in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and Brandon Wynn of Voorhees, N.J., who is a member of Team Hilton HHonors, was the all-around silver medalist. Five of the six members of the U.S. Team will be competing in the individual event finals on July 9-10.

The U.S. Team featured three members of junior national team and three from the senior squad. The members of the U.S. Junior National Team are Dylan Akers of Houston/Cypress Academy; Adrian de los Angeles of Long Beach, Calif./SCATS HB; and Sam Mikulak of Newport Coast, Calif./University of Michigan. In addition to Wynn, the senior national team members are Andrew Elkind of Cherry Hill, N.J./U.S. Olympic Training Center at Colorado Springs, and Tyler Mizoguichi of Houston/University of Illinois.

Puerto Rico won the team title with a total score of 350.000. The U.S. Team scored a 348.800, and Brazil rounded out the top three at 344.000.

In the all-around, Puerto Rico’s Luis Rivera took top honors with his 87.200. Wynn posted an 87.150, only 0.05 out of first place. Brazil’s Victor Rosa was third at 87.100. Mizoguichi was sixth at 86.450, and de los Angeles placed 14th at 83.900.

The individual event finalists, by apparatus, are: floor exercise – Akers, alternate; pommel horse – Akers and Mizoguichi; still rings – Mizoguichi and Wynn; vault – Wynn; parallel bars – Mikulak and Mizoguichi; and horizontal bar – Elkind and Wynn.

Justin Spring of the University of Illinois and Grigor Chalikyan of SCATS HB are the coaches for the U.S. team.

This international competition features 75 gymnasts from 12 countries – Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, United States, and Venezuela.
