JESOLO, Italy, March 3, 2019 – The United States won the senior team title at the 2019 Jesolo (Italy) Trophy International Competition. Sunisa Lee of St. Paul, Minnesota/Midwest Gymnastics Center, and Konnor McClain of Cross Lanes, West Virginia/Revolution, brought home the senior and junior all-around titles, respectively. In addition, the U.S. Team also brought home the junior team silver. Emma Malabuyo of Flower Mound, Texas/Texas Dreams, was the senior all-around bronze medalist, and the U.S. Team captured 10 individual event medals.

Seniors
The USA tallied a 166.798 to China’s 165.201 to win the senior team title. Italy was third at 161.333. The USA’s team event scores were: vault, 42.433; uneven bars, 41.233; balance beam, 39.766; and floor exercise, 42.366. The Americans had the top team score for vault and floor exercise. Along with Lee and Malabuyo, the U.S. senior squad featured Shilese Jones of Westerville, Ohio/Future Gymnastics Academy, and Gabby Perea of Geneva, Ill./Legacy Elite Gymnastics.

In the all-around, Lee posted a 56.466 for the crown. China’s Liu Tingting edged out Malabuyo for the silver, 55.901 to 55.899. Lee’s individual event scores were: vault, 14.200; uneven bars, 14.700; balance beam, 13.233; and floor exercise, 14.333. Malabuyo’s event scores were: vault, 14.533; uneven bars, 13.633; balance beam, 13.500; and floor exercise, 14.233. Jones was ninth (53.133), and Perea came in 13th (52.167).

Lee also picked up two gold and one bronze event medals. Lee posted a 14.450 to win the uneven bars title, with China’s Tang Xijing second at 14.350 and Italy’s Elisa Iorio with a 14.300 in third. Malabuyo was sixth (13.500). The USA went one-two in the floor exercise. Lee had the top score at 14.200, just ahead of Malabuyo’s 14.100. China’s Qi Qi was third (13.550). For the balance beam, Malabuyo was the silver medalist (14.400), with Lee claiming the bronze (14.150). China’s Liu was the gold medalist (14.800). Italy’s Asia D’Amato won the vault title (14.200).

Juniors
In the junior team competition, Russia snatched the title at 165.234 followed by the USA at 163.899. Belgium was third at 152.734. The U.S. Junior Team included Ciena Alipio of San Jose, California/West Valley Gymnastics; Sophia Butler of Houston, Texas/Discover; Kayla Di Cello of Boyds, Maryland/Hill’s Gymnastics; and McClain.

McClain handily won the junior all-around title, 56.167. Her event scores were: vault, 14.800; uneven bars, 13.967; balance beam, 14.133; and floor exercise, 13.267. Russia captured the silver and bronze medals: Vladislava Urazova in second at 55.200 and Elena Gerasimova in third with 55.000. Butler was sixth with a 53.166, and Alipio was eighth (52.833).

On vault, McClain won the event with her 14.425. Russia’s Viktoria Listunova slipped by Alipio for the silver, 14.100 to 14.050. Russia went one-two on the uneven bars, Urazova (14.300) and Gerasimova (14.100). McClain landed in third (13.750), with Butler in fifth (13.100). Alipio posted a 13.750, which put her just behind Listunova’s 13.850 on the beam. Gerasimova was third at 13.700, and McClain was sixth at 12.300. McClain also earned the floor bronze (13.350). Listunova had the top floor score at 14.300, with teammate Urazova second with 13.900. Butler was eighth (12.350).
