LIMA, Peru, July 28, 2019 – The United States won the men’s team silver medal at the 2019 Pan American Games at the Polideportivo Villa El Salvador in Lima, Peru. Tomorrow’s competition is the all-around, with the women’s featuring Kara Eaker of Grain Valley, Mo./Great American Gymnastics Express, and Riley McCusker of Brielle, N.J./MG Elite, at 1 p.m. CT, and Brody Malone of Summerville, Ga./Stanford University, and Robert Neff of Brookfield, Wis./U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center, for the men at 6 p.m. CT. U.S. fans can watch live on ESPNU.

The men representing the USA are Cameron Bock of Ann Arbor, Mich./University of Michigan; Grant Breckenridge of Libertyville, Ill./Stanford University; Brody Malone of Summerville, Ga./Stanford University; Robert Neff of Brookfield, Wis./U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center; and Genki Suzuki of North Wales, Pa./University of Oklahoma;

The men advancing to the all-around and individual event finals are: all-around, Neff, who had the top score, and Malone; floor exercise, Neff, who had the top score, and Bock; pommel horse, Malone, who had the top score, and Neff; parallel bars, Bock and Malone. Bock and Malone are the second and third reserve athletes for still rings, and Suzuki and Breckenridge are the first and second reserves for the horizontal bar.

In the team competition, the USA garnered a 249.400 total for the silver medal, finishing just 1.05 behind Brazil’s 250.450. Canada was third at 246.725. The USA had the top event scores for floor exercise and pommel horse, with the second best on vault and parallel bars.

In the all-around, Neff posted an 82.350 for the top ranking in the all-around prelims. Malone placed 12th at 78.050.

The women who advanced to the individual event finals are: vault, Aleah Finnegan of Lee’s Summit, Mo./Great American Gymnastics Express; uneven bars, McCusker and Leanne Wong of Overland Park, Kansas/Great American Gymnastics Express; and balance beam and floor exercise, McCusker and Eaker. On the first night, the U.S. women’s team, which also includes Morgan Hurd of Middletown, Del./First State Gymnastics, mined the team gold.

The competition schedule for men’s and women’s gymnastics is as follows. Rhythmic gymnastics (Aug. 2-5) and trampoline (Aug. 4-5) are held following the conclusion of artistic gymnastics. All times are local to Lima, which is on Central time.

All-Around finals

  • July 29 – Women: 1 p.m. CT; Men: 6 p.m. CT

Individual event finals

  • July 30 – 1 p.m. CT (men’s floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings; women’s vault, uneven bars)
  • July 31 – 1 p.m. CT (men’s vault, parallel bars, horizontal bar; women’s balance beam, floor exercise)

Qualification rounds determine advancement to the all-around and event finals. The top 24 individuals from the qualification rounds compete in the all-around finals on July 29 for both men and women. For individual events, the top eight on each event from the qualification rounds advance to the finals (July 30-31). A maximum of two gymnasts per country advances to the finals.

The XVIII Pan American Games competition features 31 Olympic sports, plus select non-Olympic sports, and serves as an Olympic-qualifying opportunity in 17 sports.
