CALGARY – The USA won a total of 17 individual event medals, including five gold, at the 2013 Kyle Shewfelt Gymnastics Festival in Calgary, Canada, on March 17. The U.S. gold medalists were: Fabian DeLuna of Frisco, Texas/WOGA, junior still rings and vault; Akash Modi of Morganville, N.J./Monmouth Gymnastics, senior parallel bars; Yul Moldauer of Arvada, Colo./5280 Gymnastics, junior parallel bars; and Marty Strech of Fountain Valley, Calif./Azarian Gymnastics, junior vault.

On the senior level, the USA brought home a total eight individual event medals. Both Modi and Sean Melton of Orlando/U.S. Olympic Training Center, brought home three each, with Marvin Kimble of Milwaukee, Wis./Swiss Turners, garnering two.

Modi won the parallel bars title with a 15.000. Brandon O’Neill of ORTONA AB was second at 14.425, with Canada’s Anderson Loran in third at 14.050. Adrian de los Angeles of Long Beach, Calif./University of Michigan, was fourth at 13.900.

For the floor exercise, Canada’s Scott Morgan won the title at 14.700. The USA took second and third. Melton was the runner-up at 14.150, with Modi in third at 14.100. Kevin Lytwyn of UOFC AB at 13.775.

The USA also finished second and third in the horizontal bar final. Loran was the top finisher at 14.850. Kimble was the silver medalist at 13.925, and Modi was third at 13.850. Bobby Kriangkum of Capital AB was fourth at 13.325.

Canada went one-two on pommel horse. Loran took top honors with his 14.300, followed by Ken Ikeda at 13.625. Kimble was third by posting a 13.425, with Melton in fourth at 12.275.

On still rings, Morgan was the gold medalist at 14.700, with teammate Lytwyn in second place with his 14.450. Melton was third by scoring a 14.250, with Kimble placing fourth at 14.125.

O’Neill was the gold medalist for the vault at 15.025, and Morgan was the silver medalist at 14.650. Melton was the bronze medalist with his 14.550. Modi was fourth at 14.200.

In the junior division, DeLuna collected four medals, including two gold, followed by Strech with three total, including one gold. Moldauer and David Jessen of East Greenwich, R.I./Rhode Island Sports Elite, each brought home a medal.

Strech and DeLuna tied for first on vault at 14.525. Second place went to Joel Gagnon of GYMSASK at 14.050, with Canada’s Rene Cournoyer in fourth with 13.700.

DeLuna won the still rings title at 13.725, followed by Cournoyer at 13.650 and Canada’s Matthew Halickman at 13.525.

Moldauer posted the top score for parallel bars at 14.000. Cournoyer was second at 13.450, followed by Canada’s Teagan Marsden at 12.000. Strech was fourth at 9.950.

On floor, Strech and DeLuna finished in second and third, with 13.375 and 12.675, respectively. Gagnon won the event by posting his 13.675, with Cournoyer fourth at 11.775.

Cournoyer was the gold medalist on pommel horse at 12.575. Jessen was second at 12.375, followed by Marsden at 11.875. Moldauer was fourth at 11.650.

Canada also claimed the horizontal bar title with Aaron Mah’s 13.500. Strech tied with Cournoyer for second at 12.750, and DeLuna was third at 12.025.

Earlier in the meet, Modi and Strech won the senior and junior all-around titles, respectively. Melton was third in the senior all-around, and DeLuna was second in the junior all-around.
